samenvatting: Studies show the importance of non-cis-heteronormative referents for LGBT+. The object of this paper is to explore LGBT+ referents for teenagers on the basis of the results of the "Survey on Adolescence and Sexual Diversity," which was distributed to Spanish high school students in the fourth grade of compulsory secondary education The sample was composed of 128 students aged 15-18. About 56.2% identified as girls, 43.8% identified as boys; none identified as non-binary or trans. The results of the quantitative analysis of the survey data highlight the invisibility of non-heteronormative identities and the role of the media as the main purveyor of these identities. Suggestions are offered for the transformation of communicative spaces to embrace diversity and inclusivity.

samenvatting: In this inaugural lecture, I argue that philosophical anthropology in the twenty-first century should address questions about gender, race, sexual orientation. The lecture concentrates on gender and argues for a notion of gender (in Dutch 'geslacht') as a complex interaction between embodiment, personal identity, and the way it is given meaning in the social world around us. The implication is that transgender and cisgender identities are not opposed to each other. I furthermore suggest that hermeneutics offers the philosophical tools to consider these complex interactions. Firstly, because in hermeneutics humans are considered as embedded in history, language, culture. Secondly, because understanding the world entails self-interpretation and self-understanding. Thirdly, because starting points can be found in hermeneutics for thinking about the specific self-interpretation that is at play in the case of cis- and transgender people, namely the narrative one.

samenvatting: Hoe worden lesbische, homoseksuele, biseksuele, trans en intersekse (LHBTI) mensen vertegenwoordigd in de politiek? Dit proefschrift betoogt dat het beantwoorden van deze vraag het kritisch analyseren van zichtbaarheid en het problematiseren van de vaak tegenstrijdige gevolgen daarvan vereist. LHBTI-mensen gingen van volledige sociale stigmatisering en onzichtbaarheid in de loop van enkele decennia de politiek in. Maar een vergrootte zichtbaarheid komt niet alle groepen onder de LHBTI-paraplu evenzeer ten goede, en zichtbaarheid heeft ook geleid tot tegenreacties. De hard bevochten nieuwe zichtbaarheid van LHBTI-mensen in de politiek roept vragen op over hun politieke vertegenwoordiging: welke groepen worden gezien als legitieme politieke actoren? Hoe navigeren zij hun (on)zichtbaarheid? Daagt men normatieve opvattingen over seksualiteit en genderidentiteit uit of bevestigt deze juist? En hoe zien de normatieve grenzen van onze politieke ruimtes eruit wanneer we gender en seksualiteit als lens hanteren? Dit proefschrift richt zich op LHBTI-vertegenwoordiging en benadrukt de paradoxale effecten van zichtbaarheid. Om zichtbaarheid te operationaliseren, onderscheid ik drie vormen van zichtbaarheid die mogelijkheden voor politieke vertegenwoordiging creëren of beperken: (1) categorische zichtbaarheid; (2) mediazichtbaarheid; en (3) politieke zichtbaarheid. Categorische zichtbaarheid verwijst naar de manier waarop wettelijke en maatschappelijke categorieën van geslacht en gender invloed hebben op percepties van legitimiteit en op politieke mogelijkheden. Mediazichtbaarheid beïnvloedt hoe politieke actoren denken over erkenning en rechten voor LHBTI-mensen en hoe ze handelen in het belang van LHBTI-mensen. Ten slotte biedt politieke zichtbaarheid inzicht in de manier waarop LHBTI-actoren hun rol als 'space invaders' in de politieke ruimte navigeren en hoe hun aanwezigheid de politiek beïnvloedt. Deze drie perspectieven op zichtbaarheid dragen bij aan de constructie van de culturele of discursieve grenzen die bepalen welke claims plausibel en succesvol kunnen worden gemaakt in de politiek.

samenvatting: Empirical research on transgender individuals and their families is growing but investigations of attitudes toward trans parents are sparse. This gap is especially important to address because transgender parents face unique strains due to their violations of hetero-cis-normativity and the "Mom and Dad = Cis Woman + Cis Man" stereotype. Methods: Using a sample of adults aged 18-64 stratified by U.S. census categories of age, gender, race/ethnicity and census region collected from online panelists (N = 2,948), this study provides an intersectional investigation of Norm-Centered Stigma Theory (NCST) with hetero-cis-normativity (a system of norms, privilege, and oppression that situates heterosexual cisgender people above all others) as the centralized overarching concept that helps us to understand negativity directed toward transgender parents. Specifically, social power axes including gender identity (cisgender woman, cisgender man, nonbinary; trans people were excluded from the current study), sexual identity (heterosexual, lesbian, gay, bisexual), and interactions among these axes of social power are investigated. Results: Findings indicate that hetero-cis-normativity is strongly related to negativity toward trans mothers and fathers and that there is overall greater stigma toward trans dads when compared to trans moms. In addition, gender, sexual identity, and interactions among these experiences of social power have complex relationships with the stigmatization of trans parents. Conclusion: Results provide support for the use of Norm-Centered Stigma Theory to help us best understand the constellation of hostilities directed toward trans people and their families.

samenvatting: Lo monstruoso como categoría de análisis aplicada a propuestas culturales que abordan las construcciones sexo-genéricas y que dan espacio y visibilidad a las múltiples formas de disidencia sexual en la cultura contemporánea: esa es la propuesta de este ensayo. Propuesta que no solo funciona en la órbita de la teoría sino que atañe un posicionamiento político también. El monstruo como figura que desafía los binarismos y desborda las clasificaciones y etiquetas, como clave para releer expresiones culturales que desestabilizan los binarismos y el cisheteropatriarcado, para abordar representaciones en las que la monstruosidad se convierte en un espacio de resignificación de lo que la sociedad considera abyecto, enfermo, degenerado. A partir ahí se pretende dar cuenta de gestos culturales complejos que, por ejemplo, hacen de la «enfermedad» un espacio de potencialidad vital, que transgreden constantemente los límites binarios de ser varón y ser mujer. Se trata de analizar la construcción cultural de cuerpos que subvierten desde la disidencia, el feminismo, la subalternidad, la precariedad; que transgreden los límites de lo que se puede narrar y mostrar en la literatura, el cine y el cómic.
